What Should Firms Expect From Their Trainees? (and vice versa)

 A team of distinguished speakers including:  Kat Gibson, Solicitor & Chair of the Junior Lawyers Division, The Law Society Robert Craig, Solicitor & Training Partner, Finers Stephens Innocent LLP and Simon Bullock, Information Officer, Education & Training Unit, Solicitors Regulation Authority will be participating in this CPD seminar which will consider the following themes:

 
¨       Trainee Solicitors and their role in the future of the solicitors profession;
¨       Other developments in the profession, particularly as they may affect trainees and training partners.
 
Members of the West London Law Society’s Trainee and Young Solicitors Group are particularly encouraged to attend. 
 
This event will be held on Tuesday 14th October 2008 at 5.45 pm for 6.15 pm at the Royal Air Force Club, 128 Piccadilly, London, W1J 7PY and will cost £25 for members of the West London Law Society (otherwise £30) including post-seminar finger buffet and wine.  1.5 CPD points will be available.

Robert Craig will be giving a talk on the things to think about when you are offered a partnership.  Robert is a specialist in partnership law and is also a member of the Solicitors Assistance Scheme.

 
Ø What are the pros and cons of being offered a partnership? 
Ø      What kind of questions should you ask if you are offered a partnership?
Ø       What should you do if you are not offered a partnership?
Ø       How can I protect myself if I am offered a partnership?
Ø       What should I look for in the partnership agreement?

 

This should be a lively presentation on topics which are close to the heart of every trainee solicitor.

Talk on Home Information Packs - Dr Klearchos Kyriakides - held at Finers Stephens Innocent LLP, 179 Great Portland Street.

Dr Kyriakides, Chair of West London Law Society’s Education Committee and member of the Trainee and Young Solicitor Group, provided an hour’s talk on the proposed introduction of Home Information Packs in to the residential conveyancing process. The talk provided 1 hour’s CPD points to the thirty or so trainees and young solicitors who attended and provoked a lively debate about the questionable structure of the new regime. Dr Kyriakides provided each attendee with detailed course notes and concluded by predicting that changes would need to be made before the scheme went live - and we all know what has happened subsequently!
